New Renaissance Theatre Company

Known affectionately as New Ren, this Northeastern Theatre Club truly changed my life. The amount of agency, freedom, and responsibility I was given helped me both learn how to treat threatre as a career, and how to keep my work full of passion and joy - through great peers and long hours.

I owe my ambition to be a technical director to the experience New Ren gave me, and believe it has uniquely prepared me to work in the small teams theatre is often made of.

Executive Board

As Technical Director, I held a position on the club’s executive board, and was a part of administrative duties of the organization. I attended meetings, helped organize events, and made decisions about the future of the club. I also personally mentored my replacement during my final semester on the board.

Technical Direction

I got a unique opportunity to grow as a TD as the club grew around me and the scale of our productions increased with with my skill. I was responsible, at times, for everything from hanging lights, set construction, and sound design, to leading workshops on stage electrics and designing outdoor sets for a nighttime performance.

Lights and Design

Lights were my specialty and my favorite area to work in. After a couple shows, I discovered I also enjoyed teaching new crew members about the lighting world. Over my years in New Ren, I gained most of my hands-on experience with stage lighiting equipment, and learned a surprising amount from teaching.
